Synopsis: Fictionalized account of the life of Mohammed Assaf, from his boyhood in a refugee camp in Gaza in 2005 to his success in winning the 2013 Arab Idol singing competition.

The Idol was partially filmed on location in Gaza, the first feature film to be shot there in decades. Other parts of the film were shot in Jenin, Amman, Beirut and Cairo. The Idol was produced in association with the Doha Film Institute and the support of the Netherlands Film Fund.[5]
